Why it works

Ease Cushion® addresses the root cause of pressure injury and discomfort: lack of movement.

How it works

Designed to move the way a healthy body does.

Ease Cushion® mimics the constant micro-movements of a healthy body. Conventional seating only redistributes pressure, it never removes it, so the underlying problem goes unsolved. Ease challenges that paradigm by restoring the one thing immobile tissue needs to stay healthy: movement.

The clinical evidence

Why movement, not just cushioning, protects skin.

A pressure injury starts when steady pressure shuts off blood flow to tissue over a bony point like the seat bones. The research on alternating pressure, the principle Ease Cushion's HAPT is built on, keeps pointing to the same thing: cycling the load keeps blood moving where a still surface cannot.

01

More blood flow in spinal cord injury

In people with spinal cord injury, alternating pressure produced significantly greater skin blood flow than constant pressure. The body's local blood-flow reflexes are preserved after injury, so cycling pressure can stimulate the circulation that keeps tissue healthy.

Peer-reviewed study, Spinal Cord, 2011
02

More oxygen to the seat bones

When an alternating cushion was tested at the ischial tuberosities, the seat bones most prone to sores, blood perfusion improved and oxygenated hemoglobin rose, while users reported no pain or discomfort.

Peer-reviewed study, Journal of Tissue Viability, 2015
03

Fewer ulcers than foam

In a randomized trial of 232 wheelchair users, skin-protection cushions cut ischial pressure ulcers to under 1 percent, compared with nearly 7 percent on segmented foam.

Randomized trial, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, 2010
04

What the reviews conclude

A Cochrane review of 32 randomized trials and 9,058 people found alternating pressure air surfaces may lower pressure ulcer incidence compared with foam, and are likely more cost-effective.

Systematic review, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2021

Read the studies closely and a pattern shows up. Most of this research compares alternating pressure against a surface that holds you still. That is the exact line Ease Cushion is built on: not a fixed cushion that only spreads pressure across a wider area, but a surface that keeps moving, every 30 to 150 seconds, the way a body shifts on its own.

This research describes the alternating pressure approach in general, not a single product. Ease Cushion is FDA Registered and intended for the prevention and treatment of pressure sores. Individual results vary. Talk with your healthcare provider about what is right for you.

Proven under pressure

Built for the cockpit. Engineered for daily life.

The same HAPT technology was put through U.S. Air Force testing. It dampened transport-style vibration better than standard cushions, held up through humidity, salt fog, and temperature extremes, and is the only alternating pressure technology qualified for F-15 and B-2 ejection seats. If it holds up there, it holds up under a full day in a chair.

Understanding pressure injuries

A silent emergency for wheelchair users.

For people who sit most of the day, especially after a spinal cord injury, a pressure injury can begin in just hours of unrelieved pressure and progress through four stages, becoming far harder to heal at every step. Prevention is the goal, and prevention starts with movement.
